Sligo
Perched on the edge of the Atlantic ocean where the Garavouge river meets Sligo bay
Sligo is the anglicisation of the Irish name Sligeach, meaning "abounding in shells" or "shelly place". It refers to the abundance of shellfish found in the river and its estuary, and from the extensive shell middens along the shores of Sligo Bay.
Sligo is an an outdoor adventures paradise boasting a wide range of activities and tours, Busting with natural beauty the town is surrounded by rugged mountains, stunning beach's and enchanted landscapes that have inspired explorers and poets for centuries.

Here is a quick list of our top five things to do while adventuring in Co Sligo.

Strandhill Beach
A popular beach break with multiple peaks up and down the beach. Ideal for all levels but beginner surfers should check in with one of the local surf schools before jumping in the water. The currents at this beach are notoriously strong especially when the waves are big.
Please note swimming is NOT ALOUD here .
After your surf why not check out Voya sea weed baths or grab some food in the near by Shells Cafes, Stoked restaurant or The Strand Bar.
If the surf is too small why not hike Knocknarea mountain and discover the mysteries that lie within.
Extremely busy in the summer months a smile and hello go along way in the line up.

Enniscrone Beach
Located just 10 km from Ballina Co. Mayo and 55km from Sligo town Enniscrone is a fantastic place to spend the summer holidays or a long weekend away.
The beach boasts 5kms of golden sand extending westerly from the pier. This spot is perfect for beginner and intermedate surfers, you will find smaller waves closer to the pier and bigger waves further down the beach.
When in town why not grab a coffee from the offshore coffee cart located beside the lifeguard tower or relax in the nearby sea weed baths .

Easkey Left and Right
Easkey is one of Irelands most famous surf breaks. It has a rich history in Irish surfing, Even hosting the Smirnoff International event in 1979. Easkey Left located beside O'dowds castle is consistent all year round and breaks over a cobblestone reef. In the summer months it can be mellow here but watch out during the winter months as this spot can handle some big swell.
Not too far away is Easkey right a long right hander that has many sections depending on the various stages of the tide and swell size.The right is more popular with todays surfers and produces good waves year round. The reef here is very sharp and uneven watch-out for small holes, booties or reef shoes recommended for this spot.

Streedagh Beach
Located in North Sligo just 18 km's from sligo town Streedagh beach is 3 km's long. Famously known for its ruins of 14th century Spanish Armada ships.(the La Lavia, La Juliana and the Santa Maria de Vison).
In the summer months waves are small here but its a great spot for fishing ,swimming and snorkelling. During the winter months this beach is a favourite amongst beginner and intermediate surfers.

Mullaghmore
This tranquil Irish seaside village has been a must stop for many tourist over the years visiting Sligo, with beautiful castle's and sandy beaches.
In more recent years this little village has earned its place among some of the Top Big Wave surfing spots in the world. Take an elevated view on the cliff and have a front row seat to watch some of Irelands and the worlds best surfers take on these monstrous waves.
IF big waves aren't your cup of tea you will find fun waves on the near by beach when the swell is maxing out.
While in the area be sure to check out the kiwi girl for daily fishing trips, Grab a seafood chowder and a pint in the Pier Head Hotel or relax in the amazing Blaze it sauna located on the pier.
